re-visioning strange attractors. 2021.

komplex etcher combines computational art and the real-time performance characteristic of digital musical instruments (DMIs) to present an approach towards a drawing system. It departs from the more common generative approach, but instead focus on the performative potentials of strange attractors using a musical instrument model.

At its core, komplex etcher utilizes a coordinate-based drawing system and extends the simple linear input-output mapping to a complex non-linear mapping whereby the outcome is a combined effort of input and algorithm. komplex etcher renders in the style of point cloud, revealing the spatial-temporal relationship between control (“drawing”) gestures and strange attractor(s).
